Cuvântul Vieții Publishing House of the Metropolitan Church of Muntenia and Dobrogea

ABOUT US

Cuvântul Vieții Publishing House has been operating since 2008, being registered by the National Library of Romania, ISBN National Centre, on February 25, 2008 (address no. 241/25.02.2008). With some interruptions, a printing house of the Metropolitan Church of Wallachia (or of Ungrovlahia, later of the Metropolitan Church of Muntenia and Dobrogea) operated in the capital city since 1678, when the old printing house from Târgoviște of the Metropolitan Church was transferred to Bucharest. At the end of the 19th century, in 1882, after several decades of interruption, the printing house resumed its activity under the name of Church Books Printing House (in 1949, it became the Printing House of the Biblical and Mission Institute of the Romanian Orthodox Church). In the interwar period, after the establishment of the Romanian Patriarchate (1925), the publishing house of the Archdiocese of Bucharest was established, independent of the Publishing Houses of the Romanian Patriarchate, operating within the Cultural department of the Archdiocese of Bucharest, which had different names in the following decades: Publishing House of the Archdiocese of Bucharest; Cultural Section: the Apostle; Orthodox Alpenhorn Publishing House; Publishing House of the Cultural Section of the Holy Archdiocese of Bucharest and, after 1980, the Publishing House of the Holy Archdiocese of Bucharest. Cuvântul Vieții Publishing House is the direct successor of the Publishing House of the Holy Archdiocese of Bucharest.

Cuvântul Vieții Publishing House publishes theological works in all fields (Patristics, Orthodox spirituality, liturgical theology, dogmatic theology, pastoral theology, practical theology, history of Christianity, history of the Romanian Orthodox Church, critical hagiography), including works of theology symposia and clergy conferences organized by the Archdiocese of Bucharest, as well as volumes on the medieval history of Romanians, the history of Romanian culture and civilization, especially the history of Romanian art (albums of church art, monographs of Orthodox churches and monasteries) and the history of Romanian printing, as well as volumes of literary fiction. Most texts submitted for publication represent unique and original scientific contributions; the republishing of texts comprising a very small share of the total number of publications. The publishing house verifies the originality of the texts sent for publication and is particularly vigilant regarding possible damages to intellectual property. Texts received by the editors are subject to both internal (in-editorial) and external (by outside-editorial reviewers) review to ensure a high-quality scientific research.

Extensive presentations of the volumes published by Cuvântul Vieții Publishing House can be found on this website, together with all the bibliographic information, a presentation of the authors, the table of contents and an extensive summary.
